Preservation Salem: What We Do

Restoration: PSI was founded around the rescue of a circa 1850 Greek Revival-style office building known as the Telegraph Building. The building is now on Grant Street in Salem and is being rehabilitated as an organizational office and community resource center.

Education: PSI publishes a widely distributed newsletter. Quarterly membership meetings include presentations on historical and preservation topics. PSI speakers address community groups on preservation issues. Advice and printed materials on historically appropriate treatment of buildings are available on request.

Planning: PSI advocates the use of local government tools which preserve community character. Guidance for local planners is provided.

Protection: PSI has listed two properties on the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places (Broadway in Salem and the William Smith House in Mannington Township) and can advise on the nomination process.
